These are the utility vehicles of the marine world. Whether they are tied up to the town float or pulled up in the reeds at a pond, these little guys are inexpensive to build and just plain handy to have. We offer 4 skiffs and a punt: the Dory Skiff, the Maine Skiff, the Lobsterman's Skiff, the 12' Harbor Skiff, and the Lumberyard Punt. Tip... If you are new to boatbuilding you'll want to take a close look at our Littlest Boats CD, because it shows how a skiff is set up and planked–photos make a big difference. And we are working on another one right now on the Harbor Skiff. m |

This
is not a typical skiff. Inslead of being flat sided, this one is actually
round sided. She's a pretty little thing, but more work to build than a
usual skiff because her planks have to be sawn to shape. That's not a big
deal, but it does involve additional work. Better allow 80 hours building
time. m |

This
is a Maine Skiff being built by a couple of teenagers. Construction is
basic and requires a minimum of tools and materials. The single page plan
details all scantlings, as you would expect, and the whole process is
fully described in our book,

. This is strictly a rowing boat for general use, and she could be powered with an electric kicker or a very light outboard. You wouldn't want a lot of weight hanging on her stern, when it really isn't necessary. Building time is about 40 hours..in fact, the instruction book is arranged into 40 sections each requiring about an hour's time. |

A number of years ago we were asked to design a quick 'n dirty tender for use on the shores of Puget Sound. Because it was to take a daily beating on shingle beaches, it had to be cheap enough to be expendable...that meant easy to build with readily available materials. Hence her name. Everything in her can be purchased at your local lumberyard...or Home Depot if you really want to get exotic. Building time is 30 hours or less. m |
