After paging through our website, you've probably already surmised that no other builder has more experience building our designs. And you're right; we've built close to 200 boats since we started in 1970.

What does that mean to you? First and foremost it means value, because our decades of experience translates not only into quality, but into efficiency as well. We're told that we build some of the most beautiful traditional small craft on the water, and we build them for a fair price. Others with far less experience charge far more to build our designs than we do.

Duck Trap is on the Coast of Maine, so the question is, "How do I get one of these wherries for a good price without having to pay an arm and a leg for shipping?" The answer is based on the simple fact that all of our boats–other than the Newfoundland Trap Skiff–will ride quite nicely in the back of a pickup with an 8' bed.

This is a 15' Christmas Wherry.

If you live or want your boat delivered within New England, and we can transport her in the back of our pickup, we can deliver your boat to you for $100 plus the cost of the gasoline.

Example: Our shop to Hartford, CT is a 600 mile round trip. Figuring $3/gallon gasoline and the 17mpg of our Tundra, plus the $100, that would come to a total delivery charge of $205.88.

If you live beyond New England, in exchange for you arranging pickup at our shop, we will calculate the cost of the crate and what we would normally have to pay our common carrier, and deduct half of that amount from the price of the boat.

Example: Our shop to Asheville, NC. The crate for a 14' Duck Trap Wherry costs us $720, and the common carrier charges $882 for 200 class freight, for a total of $1602. Therefore, we would deduct $801 from the cost of your new boat. Now, you migh be able to hire someone to come here and pick up your boat for that, or you could get behind the wheel of a pickup and come get her yourself, and that allowance should cover your expenses.

We're still working on arrangements for our Canadian and overseas friends.
